This photograph was taken in Edinburgh Castle grounds during the Tattoo in 1953.
The Argylls part in the performance consisted of marching on to form a cross. We were all carrying torches. When we had formed the cross all the lights were turned off and a blue light flooded the esplanade. We then raised our torches and switched them on to create the Scottish Saltire with a white cross on a blue background. I think you can imagine the effect you got from that. |
