This was not the true Balaklava Squad. The Squad was given the name, "Balaklava" presumably because the public would recognise the name more readily. The tallest and smartest men were drawn from all the different squads in Stirling Castle at that time and were paraded on the square so that a picture could be taken for advertising posters to be made. The picture was taken on the inner courtyard of Stirling Castle. The Sergeant at the front of the Squad was one Sgt Campbell.
