Note:
The Garden of Gethsemane is in the valley of Kedron. If one leaves Jerusalem by St Stephen's gate and walks along the valley of Jehoshaphat one can find the tombs of Zacharias, Absolem and James. The tomb of Ruth is also not far away.
This is the garden on the Mount of Olives on the east of Jerusalem, where Jesus prayed on the night before his arrest and crucifixion.

I walked with a couple of mates in this garden. It hasn't changed much.

It was 1939 and Ginger Craig and myself were detailed to join the armed guard who were in the 15 cwt Morris truck waiting for the Officer who was going in his P.U. truck to Jerusalem. When we arrived in Jerusalem the Officer told us we could have an hour off, but we had to be ready to depart Jerusalem within that hour.

I have explained the picture to many people who have scoffed and smiled, but I know what I saw. Unfortunately, Ginger Craig cannot back me up, because he was killed by shrapnel at the battle of Sidi Barrani in the desert. I and another bloke put our greatcoats on Ginger as he lay dying, then we went in and sorted out the Italians and took Sidi Barrani.

The Australian troops then took over and while we stayed at Sollum to guard the jetty that was stacked with tins of petrol, the Australians pushed onto Bardia and that evening we were treated to a fireworks display as they pasted Bardia with big guns.
