Recruits so bold and fine
Have signed away their lives, Sir
To join The Thin Red Line

Their boots are clean and polished, Sir
Their kilts and trews so fine
Their skills are honed and sharp, Sir
To join The Thin Red Line

They go to fight the battle, Sir
Although it's not their own
Give everything they have, Sir
How few are going home?

All present and correct, Sir
They hand back their kit so fine
They leave with their bodies, Sir
But where, oh, where's their mind?

In dreams, these days will haunt them, Sir
The loss of comrades fine
What price these men have paid, Sir
