At first glance we thought, not bad
A kind of homely look it had
But after we had dropped our packs
And tried to reconstruct our backs
-decided that it was no good
The Major pointed to the "Wood"
Although a break we had for lunch
He promptly got us in a bunch
"I'm sorry chaps you're for a stroll
the camps too wee, so on Patrol"
The rations then lay at our feet
The normal stuff we had to eat
There's Irish Stew (for Paddy's sake)
And Hard Tack too in place of cake
Now 4 PI were on their way
Because of them we could not stay
So off in file we went again
For four days solid-it would rain
We had our ups and downs on tracks
And ate like Pigs to ease our packs
But on the last day we did 'greet'
-No grub was left for us to eat
Back to camp we trudged along
The Indoes stopped us from our song
Our leading Scout was on his toes
And never bothered with his nose
He was of course our friend "Big Bob"
But we all knew he'd done his job
Later when we downed our scoff
The Major gave us some time off
To lie about was all I cared
You've guessed it-this was wrote by Aird.
